Seventh house and the seventh lord

In vedic astrology, the seventh house shows how is going to be a person’s married life and who will be one’s partner. If you see your birth vedic chart it will look like the following below:Image

This chart above is just an example. Each space represents a house and the number inside corresponds to signs. Then, number 10 is in the first house, number 11 is in the second house, number 12 is in the third house and so on.

In this post, I will be restricted on SEVENTH HOUSE. In the example above, that house has number 4 on it. This number shows a sign which is Cancer, but I am not going to focus on this. The important to know for now is the meaning of the seventh house. First of all, 7th house is a house of “marriage, legal partnership (also includes business partnership), rules fame of a person as its opposite of the 1st house which is self and 7th house is other people, house of masses, and it also involves sex, and sexual relationship with the legal partner.”[1].

Any planet in that house will add something to one’s married life. In our example, the planet Mars is in the 7th house cusp. It could cause a lot of fights in a legal relationship, but a passionate marriage as well. Mars brings argumentative partners and gives to one a high sex drive in that house. [2]

If the vedic chart had no planets in the 7th house cusp, I mean, if the 7th house were empty, it would be much better because the house would be intact without energies that comes from planets.

Every planet brings something to one’s relationships. In the 7th house cusp, Saturn causes delays to marry, but once married, the one will be potentially committed for the rest of ones life. Besides, this position is good for business, especially in the sign of Libra. Rahu (north node of the moon) in the 7th house is better for business than marriage. Rahu can give to one’s life more than two marriages because of its tendency to want everyone. As a result, the native could cheat on the partner. If Ketu (south node of the moon) were in the 7th house, it would give a very spiritual relationship or make the native not interested in relationships of any kind.

To know more about the one’s spouse (personality and even profession), astrologers usually check the seventh house’s lord. What does it mean? Each house has a sign and each sign has a ruler (a  planet that is the owner of a certain house). In the example above, the ruler of 7th house is Moon (Cancer is in the house cusp). In order to find the one’s spouse profession (or another trait) and to know where one will meet ones spouse, you might look for where the 7th ruler is. In the chart above, the ruler, Moon, is in the 11th house. This means that one will draw to caring type of people, because Moon is related to affection and emotions matters. Also, the 7th lord in the 11th house cusp suggests that one may meet ones spouse in a friendship environment or in a network circle because this house belongs to Aquarius which represents all those things.

I might be doing one post about what happen with Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Moon and Sun in the 7th house cusp. And other post about houses in vedic astrology. If a person is interested in astrology, my advice to this person is: do not read only your Sun sign because it shows just an isolated element about you. For the best astrologers out there, the Moon is considered a person’s personality. The Sun sign, the Moon sign and the Ascendant sign (or rising sign) are responsible for a person’s basics features. Reading your whole birth chart is an opportunity to go deeper and to know your truly self.

See you soon then
